The Van Gogh Museum



No sightseeing inAmsterdam tour can ever be complete without a trip to the world famous Van Gogh Museum.



The Art Museum is one of its kind! It is a tribute to the memory of the great Vincent Van Gogh. The art house displays some of the best works of the world renowned artist. You can also see works by Van Gogh’s contemporaries on display.

The architectural design for the museum was commissioned by the local Dutch government in the year 1963.The museum was inaugurated for the first time in the year 1973. The structure was renovated once in the year 1999.

The art house has the distinction of housing the largest number of works by Van Gogh. There are more than 200 paintings, 400 sketches and some of his personal letters. It happens to be the 35th most visited art museum in the world. It is of great interest to researchers, art historians and those studying Van Gogh. The museum also has some sculptures by artists Auguste Rodin and Jules Dalou.

The Rietveld Building is the main museum building. The Kurokawa Wing is special in the sense that it is used for high profile temporary art exhibitions.
